Auriol Road, Hammersmith
KCA’s scheme for 24 prime residential apartments & virtual town houses on Auriol Road in Hammersmith has been granted planning permission.
The scheme responds to the sensitive Gunter Estate Conservation area setting with a carefully articulated contemporary design featuring local architectural characteristics. The main building materials are roman bricks a lime stone base and antique bronze metal work.
A series of virtual town houses at ground and lower ground sit below lateral apartments on the upper levels.
The original use of the site in early Victorian times was as a fruit orchard. We have used this heritage as inspiration for a series of stain glass windows one for each of the residential entrance porticos. Expanding upon this theme a continuous ribbon of carved text in Victorian copper plate will run along the top of the stone work weaving in and out of the entrance porticos the text a list of early Victorian apple types:
– Cox’s Orange Pippin – Golden Noble – Blenheim Orange – St. Edmund’s Pippin – Newton Wonder – Peasgood’s Nonsuch – Beauty of Bath – Ashmead’s Kernel –
